Nancy Guthrie Update: Case Takes a Turn After After News Emerges

0 14

On Tuesday, Feb. 24, the examination into the disappearance Nancy Guthrie, the mother of "Today" co-host Savannah Guthrie, continued, and the case took a turn.

The Pima County officials released fresh information late Monday, Feb. 23, debunking a popular theory that has been making the rounds.

In an official statement, officials state that the doorbell photo that's been surfacing depicting a masked suspect at Nancy Guthrie's home before her Feb. 1 abduction is "purely speculative," putting to rest the idea that the suspect was certainly there before the tragic night.

According to a report from investigators, even though the photos show a suspect in different clothing, there's no date or time stamp to prove the person was at her house on multiple different days.

Also, according to a report that Fox News Phoenix shared on Tuesday, Feb. 24, "Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos reportedly told NBC News that there's a snag with mixed DNA that was sent to a lab in Florida. He also said there are no names his team is currently looking into."

Detectives and Agents Back in the Nancy Guthrie Neighborhood on Tuesday, Feb. 24

The sheriff's department released a statement on Tuesday stating they're back in the Guthrie neighborhood canvassing.

"Detectives and agents have collected multiple gloves from the area, and analysis is part of the investigation," they stated. "Specific details about these pieces of evidence will not be shared publicly, as this remains an active investigation."

The statement adds, "There may be fluctuations day to day based on investigative leads. Several hundred law enforcement personnel remain dedicated to this case. This will remain an active investigation until Nancy Guthrie is found or all leads are exhausted."

Private Citizens Want to Help, But Experts Say They Have to Go Through the Proper Steps

Private citizens also want to help, and officials are responding to those requests, too. As for the private search parties, they state, "Volunteer search groups have inquired about being in the area. Per the Sheriff, they were asked to please give investigators the space they need to do their work. We appreciate their concern, and we all want to find Nancy, but this work is best left to professionals. PCSD has volunteer opportunities if they wish to get involved with the department."

They add, "Private property laws apply. It is up to each individual property owner to grant permission for anyone to be on their property."

The FBI, according to Fox News Phoenix, as gotten more than 20,000 tips. "Right now, our focus is on this investigation and serving the victims and this community. Internal or political commentary distracts from this active investigation, and it is very unfortunate. My focus remains on justice and transparency," Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said.
