I’ve Tasted Countless Gins. Hendrick’s New Orange-and-Cacao Gin Is Shockingly Good

0 0

In the late 1990s, William Grant & Sons amazed the liquor world by introducing Hendrick’s Gin, which is flavored with rose petals and cucumber. It was a long shot but the genre-bending spirit became a bartender darling. Now, the Scottish brand is rolling out the first permanent addition to its core lineup in nine years, and it’s called — wait for it — Another Hendrick’s Gin.

Hendrick Gin's master distiller Lesley Gracie created the brand's latest expression.

Packaged in a matte white version of Hendrick’s’ signature dark apothecary-style bottle, Another Hendrick’s contains the same 11 botanicals as original gin, but builds upon them with the curious addition of orange blossom and cacao beans. Think of it like the flagship expression with added notes of white flowers and chocolate-covered oranges.

The recipe for Another Hendrick’s was inspired by the musing of its master distiller Lesley Gracie about what she would do if tasked with creating Hendrick’s today as well as her love of chocolate and flowers. The resulting spirit’s profile is simultaneously familiar and very different.

“Another Hendrick’s is the complete opposite of what we’ve been doing for the past 25 years, and the delectable combination of orange blossom and cacao beans is really rather unusual,” Gracie said in a statement.

Like Hendrick’s flagship expression, every batch of Another Hendrick’s is made 500 liters at a time at the Hendrick’s Gin Palace in Girvan, Ayrshire, on the southwest coast of Scotland.
