Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr Set Date For Netflix Rematch
Boxing legends Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. have announced a highly anticipated rematch over a decade since their previous fight, which was labeled one of the biggest boxing events of the century.
The pair previously fought at the Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, where Mayweather was declared the winner by unanimous decision. Mayweather retired from professional boxing just two years later, though has since returned for exhibition matches against stars like Logan Paul and supposedly Mike Tyson later this year.
Pacquiao vs. Mayweather Jr. Round 2 is Coming in September 2026
The rematch will take place in Las Vegas once again, at the world-renowned Sphere venue on September 19. The fight will be streamed globally on Netflix, in an attempt to cement the streaming platform's partnership with combat sports.
Pacquiao has recently come out of retirement to fight international stars like Mario Barrios and Ruslan Provodnikov, with the timing matching perfectly with Mayweather's return to fight Tyson.
The last time Mayweather and Pacquiao fought, Mayweather was crowned the victor by unanimous decision—though many fans across the world were disappointed by the quality of the fight. What had been labelled as the "Fight of the Century" was criticized for poor production and underwhelming results; no doubt this year's fight will be very different.
“Floyd and I gave the world what remains the biggest fight in boxing history,” said Pacquiao. “The fans have waited long enough – they deserve this rematch, and it will be even bigger now that it will be streamed live globally on Netflix. I want Floyd to live with the one loss on his professional record and always remember who gave it to him. As always, I dedicate this fight to my fellow Filipinos around the world and to bringing glory to the Philippines.”
Mayweather's response was less elegant: "I already fought and beat Manny once. This time will be the same result."
The event continues Netflix's ongoing interest in live sports, particularly boxing and wrestling. The streamer gathered impressive figures in 2024 for its showcase of Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson, and this rematch threatens to be even more of a crowdpleaser.
