Eric Dane's Final Project Wasn't a Movie or TV Show
On Feb. 19, Eric Dane's family announced his death from ALS at the age of 53. Even after getting his diagnosis, Dane continued working, finishing filming of Euphoria Season 3 and making a guest appearance in an episode of Brilliant Minds.
But the Grey's Anatomy alum's final project wasn't a movie or TV show. It was a memoir about his journey with ALS, called Book of Days: A Memoir in Moments.
“I want to capture the moments that shaped me — the beautiful days, the hard ones, the ones I never took for granted — so that if nothing else, people who read it will remember what it means to live with heart,” Dane said in a statement. “If sharing this helps someone find meaning in their own days, then my story is worth telling.”
Former California First Lady Maria Shriver announced she would publish the book on her imprint, The Open Field in December 2025, just two months before Dane's death. "It is indeed an honor to publish [Dane's] new memoir about his account of being diagnosed with ALS and how he is dealing with it," Shriver wrote in an Instagram post. "I’m so humbled and honored that he chose [The Open Field] to publish his important story, an imprint known for publishing bestselling books that rise above the noise and move humanity forward."
She added, "I cannot wait for the world to read his story and learn more about his intention and his goals. Thank you for entrusting me with your story, Eric!"
Shriver also laid on the praise in an official statement about the book. "Eric wants to give his daughters something to be proud of, and this book will not only make them proud, but it will also help people understand what ALS is and isn't..."
An official release date for the book has yet to be revealed, but it is set for release sometime in 2026.
