Logan Paul Just Sold A Pokemon Card for $16 Million

0 3

YouTube sensation and WWE superstar Logan Paul has officialy sold his one-of-one illustrated Pikachu Pokemon card for a staggering $16 million at auction, making three times as much money as he paid for it.

Paul purchased the card - which is widely cited as the rarest Pokemon card ever made - for just over $5 million back in 2021. At the time, this set the Guiness World Record for the most expensive trading card ever sold.

Logan Paul Sold His Pikachu Card For $16 Million

Paul officially announced that he would be selling his priceless card in January 2026, with Goldin Auctions labeling it "the biggest [...] trading card game auction ever held." Offers quickly climbed to $5 million, matching the price that Paul publicly paid for the card originally, before skyrocketing in the final days of the auction and reaching $16 million.

The auction took 41 days overall, with the majority of the bidding taking place in an "extended window" after the official end date. The final price came to $13.3 million plus a 24% buyer's premium, bringing the total to $16,492,000.

Goldin has not yet disclosed the identity of the auction's winner, but they will be receiving Pauls' iconic card along with the custom-made gold case that he displayed it in for his WrestleMania 38 costume.

Why Is The Card So Expensive?

The story of the Pikachu Illustrator card stretches back to 1998, when it was gifted to winners of an illustration contest held by CoroCoro Comic in Japan. The card was designed by Atsuko Nishida, the original designer of Pikachu.

Around 40 copies of the card are known to have been distributed over the years, but Paul's is the only one in mint condition. "Due to the scarcity, grand value, and pedigree of this Pikachu Illustrator, this is one of the most significant public offerings of a Pokémon card in the history of the hobby and a potentially once-in-a-lifetime sale," the card's official auction listing read.

Of course, the trading card's value has only increased over the years. Paul's decision to showcase the card through his WrestleMania costume was a smart movie that increased its worth even more, allowing him to triple his returns when selling it back to the fans.
