Is The IRS Closed On Presidents' Day? What Taxpayers Need To Know

0 4

With Presidents' Day being a federal holiday in the United States, today may not be the best time to get started with filing your taxes.

Since the IRS is an official government holiday, the statutory body will not be open on February 16, 2026. All federal workers will have the day off, meaning all phone lines and offices will be closed on Presidents' Day.

Where To Get Tax Help on Presidents' Day

Although phone lines won't be open on Presidents' Day, the IRS will be open as usual from Tuesday, February 17. That being said, the two weeks following Presidents' Day are reportedly the IRS' busiest of the year, so callers can expect longer wait times.

For more urgent matters, the IRS' website has plenty of resources to answer the most common tax-based questions without the need of an assistant. The website covers how to claim a tax refund, how to file specific forms, which forms you need to file, and much more. You can access the website here.

Once the helplines reopen on February 17, help will be available Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. local time - with residents of Alaska and Hawaii following Pacific Time.
