"At that moment in time, I might have thought it was love," he said. "But as I got older, I realized, maybe it wasn't. Maybe it was lust. Maybe it was this. Maybe it was that."
"I don't feel like it was love," he continued. "To be fair, just to say this on the record, I will always love G, because she is the reason my child is on this Earth and I have the utmost respect for her. I will always love her, but I don’t know if I was in love with her."
Zayn and model Gigi Hadid dated on and off for six years and share a daughter, Khai.
Zayn and Gigi Hadid's History
Zayn and Hadid were first linked together in 2015.
After dodging dating rumors, the pair went Instagram official towards the end of 2015.
Hadid later went on to star in Zayn's music video for his single, "Pillow Talk."
Soon after, the pair followed it up with an editorial spread in Vogue and a red carpet appearance together at the 2016 Met Gala.
A few weeks later, it was reported that the pair had broken up. A source told E! News, "During her birthday, they were fighting," and added that the couple had "broken up and got back together a few times."
In the years that followed, their relationship was plagued by breakups and makeups.
By 2020, the pair appeared to be back on, with Hadid sharing a series of photos celebrating milestones together. It was later revealed that they were expecting.
They announced the arrival of their daughter Khai in September that year.
In 2021, it was reported that Gigi's mother, Yolanda Hadid, alleged Zayn had assaulted the former Real Housewives star. She claimed Zayn "grabbed and shoved her into a dresser, causing mental anguish and physical pain," along with calling her "a f–king Dutch slut" and to "stay away from [my] f–king daughter."
Zayn has publicly denied these allegations in a statement.
Zayn pleaded "no contest" to the four harassment charges.
He told Cooper that he is currently single and focused on co-parenting their daughter, Khai.
