Netflix Quietly Cancels Iconic Franchise Show After One Season

Netflix has canceled a show that is a continuation of a legendary franchise without ever announcing the news to fans. Since it is already known that many shows are leaving the streaming service in 2026, it is surprising that this series' cancellation was only confirmed by its creator after viewers were left wondering for months.

On February 13, 2026, Terminator Zero creator Mattson Tomlin answered a fan's question about the show's future. After the first eight-episode season premiered on August 29, 2024, viewers have been left in limbo. Netflix and the show's production team hadn't confirmed if the show had been renewed or had ended. In response to the fan query, Tomlin confirmed in a low-key X post that Terminator Zero was canceled by Netflix and shared the reason why.

"It was cancelled. The critical and audience reception to it was tremendous, but at the end of the day, not nearly enough people watched it. I would’ve loved to deliver on the Future War I had planned in seasons 2 and 3, but I’m also very happy with how it feels contained as is."

Even after the initial post, a fan who wanted extra confirmation asked Tomlin directly on X. "Did Netflix contact you and say it’s actually canceled? Terminator Zero's creator replied with a gif of Arnold Schwarzenegger as a T-800 saying "Affirmative."

Despite the show having an unceremonious end, Tomlin posted on X, thanking Netflix for being so supportive of his vision for the series. Additionally, he revealed he was offered a chance to produce a few episodes to give the series' story an ending, and explained why he declined that offer from the streaming company.

"They offered to let me do 2, maybe 3 episodes more to wrap up the story, which I declined. I felt the story I wanted to tell was much longer, and the finale of season one actually left things in a good place. But they didn’t have to offer that. Good partners here."

Terminator Zero Was a Critical Hit

Based on the strength of its one season, Terminator Zero drew a lot of praise. In addition to the fans who cared enough to press Mattson Tomlin for answers about its fate on X, critics responded well to the anime series, too. In fact, Terminator Zero holds a 87% Rotten Tomatoes score, topping most of the franchise's films and its other notable TV entry.
