Seahawks Lose Coach Immediately After Super Bowl Win Over Patriots

The Seattle Seahawks put together a dominant performance in Super Bowl LX as the defense forced three turnovers and sacked NFL MVP runner-up Drake Maye six times en route to a 29-13 victory.

As many coaches have learned in the sport, Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald will come to understand success as a sort of double-edged sword. Immediately after winning the Super Bowl, Macdonald and his staff are set to lose a top assistant coach.

Klint Kubiak Leaving for Las Vegas

Seattle will lose offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, who is set to become the head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders in the next few days. Speaking with NBC's Melissa Stark after the game, the top assistant coach confirmed his decision to leave the team for the AFC.

"You guys know I'm going to Las Vegas," Kubiak said from the Levi's Stadium field in Santa Clara, CA. "I'm fired up about it."

Mike Macdonald, Jaxon Smith-Njigba Rave About Kubiak

While he's losing a key piece of the Super Bowl-winning team, Macdonald is happy for his top assistant.

"I'm really happy for Klint. Without him, we wouldn't be here," he said after the Super Bowl victory. "Happy for Klint, he's a world champ, and we'll see what happens in the next couple days."

Star wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who won the NFL's offensive player of the year award this season while racking up 119 receptions for 1,793 yards and 10 touchdowns during the 2025 campaign, admitted the team will miss Kubiak.

"Man, they're getting someone special, someone who knows the game, someone who's going to do whatever it takes to win," he said. "He's an unbelievable coach. I was honored to play with him this year. Just for him to get to know me, get to know what I was like as a player and person, it's something special and something I don't take for granted. So best of luck to him. We're going to miss him."

Kubiak takes over a Raiders team that went just 3-14 this season and fired head coach Pete Carroll after just one season. The new head coach has the luxury of owning the No. 1 pick, which is widely expected to be used on national title-winning quarterback Fernando Mendoza.
