Why We Love This Deal
Winter jackets, particularly parkas, are all over the place in terms of price and warmth. In my time covering them, I've seen cheaper options that barely offer insulation and high-end, expedition-level coats crossing the $1,000 barrier. One I found recently that falls somewhere in the middle is the Columbia Barlow Pass parka. It sits toward the lower end of the price spectrum while offering real winter protection and some smart tech. Now, during Columbia's Winter Sale, you can get one for under $200.
The Columbia Barlow Pass TurboDown II Parka is now just $174 on the brand’s website, a 40% savings off its regular price of $290. This well-built winter coat fits the bill for your average parka, but it comes in a shorter length for ease of access, and it is available in both big and tall sizes. We wouldn't wear this to climb Mt. Everest, but it absolutely will serve you as a daily driver in everyday wintery conditions.

Generally, a decent everyday parka is going to cost somewhere from $150 to $300 on average. Popular models like The North Face’s McMurdo sit on the higher end, around $400, while REI’s own Powderbound Parka sits on the lower end of something we'd buy, at just $120. This Columbia falls somewhere on the lower end of the price scale while balancing performance, weather protection, warmth, and looks.

What Wearers Are Saying
With a couple of hundred 5-star ratings, it’s easy to see why this parka has become a fan favorite. One buyer said it’s a “cozy, warm, fantastic jacket.” They put theirs through its paces, wearing it at -25 degrees with wind chill, and weren’t cold at all. They even cautioned prospective buyers about how warm it is: “Do have to be careful because while snow blowing, I started to sweat.”
“This coat checks all the boxes for style, warmth, and utility,” said another reviewer, noting that the reflective tech is “superb and guarantees warmth.”
For under $200, this Columbia fur-hooded parka is quite the bargain, given the tech you get packed into its lighter design. Sizes are starting to run low, so make sure you don’t take too long deciding and grab yours while you still can.
