Next Year's Super Bowl Will Make NFL History
We're not trying to rush the Super Bowl away, but looking ahead to next year, NFL history will be made on Super Sunday. That will be the case no matter what happens on the field during the game.
Super Bowl LXI is set for Sunday, Feb. 14, 2027 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. That date is significant for multiple reasons
Super Bowl LXI will be the latest one in NFL history
The Super Bowl was a January affair for its first 35 years of existence, until the September 11 terrorist attacks caused a pause during the 2001 season, which pushed Super Bowl XXXVI back to early February.
The big game returned to late January the following season, but since Super Bowl XXXVIII on Feb. 1, 2004, the NFL has played its final game in the second month of the calendar year.
Super Bowl LVI, ironically also played at SoFi Stadium, is the latest-played Super Bowl on record (Feb. 13, 2022). That mark will be eclipsed by one day next February.
Super Bowl LXI will also be the first one played on Valentine's Day
The NFL schedule is going to throw some wrinkles into Valentine's Day dining schedules around the country.
If you're a football fan, better plan any activities with your significant for Friday or Saturday of that weekend, or maybe sneak in a brunch before the game on Super Bowl Sunday.
Oh, and next year's Super Bowl will also air on ESPN for the first time
ESPN is the broadcast home for Super Bowl LXI, the first time football's biggest game will air on the Worldwide Leader. The action will also be simulcast on ABC.
Joe Buck and Troy Aikman will be in the booth, just like they were for several other Super Bowls on FOX over the years. ESPN is wasting no time starting the hype either.
At 11:30 p.m. ET tonight, following the conclusion of Super Bowl LX, ESPN will air "The Handoff," a one-time, 24-hour event to set the table for its Super Bowl coverage.
