Watch Lindsey Vonn’s Harrowing Olympic Crash That Left Fans Stunned
Team USA skier Lindsey Vonn suffered a horror crash at the Winter Olympics on Sunday, knocking her out of the competition as she was airlifted to hospital.
Vonn won a gold medal at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics and was looking to make a long-awaited comeback to the sports after retiring six years ago. But after rupturing her ACL nine weeks ago, the dream appeared over.
Vonn decided to compete this year anyway, which backfired in nightmare fashion when she crashed hard during the finals of the downhill skiing. According to The Independent, the crash saw Vonn's shoulder "...catch a gate, her left foot twisting out - her left knee is the one with the ruptured ACL - and crashing very badly, rolling over several times."

Following the crash, Vonn was placed on a stretcher and lifted to a nearby hospital. According to NBC News, Team USA Head Coach Paul Kristofic claimed: "We don't know anything really yet. She's with a medical team in the hospital [...] She's getting evaluated right now in Cortina. And then, obviously, depending on the severeness of the injury, they're going to make decisions where to put her."
It wasn't a complete disaster for Team USA, however, as Vonn's teammate and close personal friend Breezy Johnson ended up winning the gold medal in her place. Emma Aicher of the German team won silver, while Italy's Sofia Goggia came third.
