Our Favorite Craft Tequila Brand of 2026 Just Dropped an Extremely Limited Rosa Añejo—and It Breaks All the Rules
The selection of tequila has recently exploded with arguably more bottles to choose from than ever before. So it was quite an honor for Men’s Journal to name Cazcanes the best craft tequila brand of 2026 in our recent spirits awards.
Founded in 2018, Cazcanes has quickly gained a reputation for embracing time-honored techniques with a modern twist. So it may come as no surprise that its latest añejo isn’t your average añejo.
For the first time in the brand’s history, Cazcanes is introducing a rosa añejo tequila. While not an official term, “rosa” is used in the tequila industry to describe a spirit that has been aged in wine barrels rather than barrels that had previously held American whiskey. To make its rosa, Cazcanes used wine barrels and bourbon barrels, creating a blend that combines the best of both worlds.

For two years, the Cazcanes team aged their standard No. 10 Still Strength Blanco expression in two uncharred French oak barrels that has previously held Napa cabernet sauvignon. They also aged their blanco in one lightly re-charred ex-Four Roses Bourbon barrel for 30 months. They then blended all three barrels of tequila together and bottled the final product at 40 percent ABV. There are only 600 bottles of finished tequila.
According to the brand, the new expression opens with delicate aromas of vanilla, soft oak, cinnamon, and jalapeño. Upon taking a sip, this tequila reveals layers of honey, red berries, and subtle barrel spice, culminating in a long, smooth finish with lingering hints of peach, apricot, and brown butter.

“The French oak wine barrels bring elegance and fruit-driven structure, while the lightly re-charred bourbon barrel contributes warmth, grounding depth, and a touch of natural sweetness to help balance the tannins from the wine casks,” says the brand’s chief innovation officer Jon-Paul Fortunati. “Blending the two allowed us to create contrast and harmony — ensuring the wine influence enhances the tequila without overtaking it, and keeping agave at the center of the experience.”
