As the search for Savannah Guthrie's missing mother, Nancy Guthrie, continues, she has understandably stepped back from her plan to host NBC's coverage of the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy. Now, her Today co-host Craig Melvin will also be pulling out of on-site coverage. People confirmed that Melvin is no longer set to travel to Milan to anchor NBC's Olympic Late Night coverage, and will remain stateside. According to reports, NBC's Ahmed Fareed will take over Olympic Late Night. Fareed was already scheduled to host the daytime portion of NBC's Olympics coverage from Milan.

How Has Craig Melvin Addressed Nancy Guthrie's Disappearance?

After first addressing the story on-air the day it happened, Melvin has spoken up about the outpouring of support he's seen from fans and viewers.

“Over the last few days, people have come out of the woodwork,” he said, pointing out that “Savannah and the family needs to hear" the messages of hope and prayer.

“My pastor used to have this saying years ago,” he added. “He’s like, it’s easy to be faithful when things are going well in your life. It’s easy to be faithful when you’re at the mountaintop, but the God of the mountain is the God of the valley.”

Olympics Producers Speak Out

“Our hearts go out to Savannah and the entire Guthrie family. They continue to have our full support,” said Molly Solomon, executive producer and president of NBC Olympics Production, in a February 4 statement.

Savannah Guthrie Asks for Prayers

In a recent Instagram post, Guthrie asked the public to pray for the safe return of her mother.

“We believe in prayer,” she wrote. “We believe in voices raised in unison, in love, in hope. We believe in goodness. We believe in humanity. above all, we believe in Him. Thank you for lifting your prayers with ours for our beloved mom, our dearest Nancy, a woman of deep conviction, a good and faithful servant. Raise your prayers with us and believe with us that she will be lifted by them in this very moment. We need you.”

In a tearful plea posted to social media yesterday, Savannah Guthrie and her siblings appealed to the kidnappers, saying they were "ready to talk."

"We live in a world where voices and images are easily manipulated," they said. "We need to know, without a doubt, that she is alive and that you have her. We want to hear from you, and we are ready to listen. Please reach out to us."

The Olympics Opening Ceremony primetime coverage begins at 8:00 p.m. ET on Friday, Feb. 6 on NBC
