Famous True Crime Expert Nancy Grace Weighs in on Nancy Guthrie Abduction Suspect
Sadly, the search continues for 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, mother of Today host Savannah Guthrie. The mother, grandmother, and pillar of the Catalina Foothills, Arizona community (a small town northeast of Tucson) has been reported missing since Sunday, February 1, in what local law enforcement and the FBI believe to be an abduction. Despite authorities working around the clock, sifting through available clues and conducting interviews, and the family themselves making a desperate plea to the public, she’s yet to be found.
As expected with a high-profile case such as this, plenty of journalists, celebs, and even political figures have offered their well-wishes to the Guthrie family. Journalists, in particular, have also been more inclined to offer their takes on the situation. Enter Nancy Grace.
For years, the former prosecutor turned true crime expert has offered her expertise and analysis of some of this country’s most talked-about crimes, and the Guthrie abduction proves to be no exception. She even has some initial thoughts on the profile of the suspect.
Nancy Grace Is Screaming “Technology”
In an interview with Fox News, Grace pointed out that the neighborhood from which Guthrie went missing is a relatively private neighborhood with lots of trees, to the point that “you can’t really see your neighbor.” Focusing on the quiet street on which the 84-year-old lives, Grace firmly believes that, despite it not getting a ton of traffic, technology has to come into play here in helping to crack this case. She states:
“There’s a red light, there’s a stop sign, there’s a QuikTrip, there’s something. That’s what I’m screaming right now: technology and following the trail of that road.”
For Grace, she finds it quite improbable that a camera somewhere along this road and/or near this neighborhood didn’t catch useful footage in tracking down Guthrie or her kidnapper.
Nancy Grace Believes the Suspect in the Nancy Guthrie Disappearance Is “Possibly Someone Local”
Over the last 48 hours, a lot has been talked about in terms of ransom notes in the Guthrie case. According to E News, one of these notes has been deemed a “false ransom note,” and the FBI has made an arrest in connection with it. However, there is another ransom note that authorities are taking “extremely seriously” that was sent to national and local media outlets.
If you’ve been following the case closely, TMZ and local CBS affiliate KOLD received a ransom letter for Guthrie. Commenting on these particular scenarios, Grace said:
“Who would send the ransom note to TMZ? And I believe the local is KOLD, a local outlet,” Grace asked. “Somebody local, somebody who’s familiar with TMZ. Who logs onto TMZ? Who clicks there?”
Overall, Grace is holding onto the belief that the suspected abductor in this whole devastating situation is someone familiar with the area because they’re local to it. Again, her point stems from the ransom notes. Unfortunately, her theory hasn’t been proven to be correct quite yet. For now, the country is left continuing to pray for the safe return of Guthrie and the capture of the assailant.
