World's First Mountain Bike Hotel Shares 2026 Schedule
If you're looking for some adventurous travel this spring and summer, one extraordinarily unique hotel has you covered, as the world's first mountain bike hotel is gearing up to reopen its doors in May with a full schedule of events throughout the season.
Norrøna Canvas Telemark in remote Norway became the world’s first hotel designed specifically for mountain bikers when it opened 16 seasons ago. Now, after what its CEO describes as a "winter recharge," it's ready to welcome guests once again.
“After a winter recharge, we’re ready to welcome guests back to our wilderness hotel,” says Jørgen Jørgensen, CEO of Norrøna. “Canvas is more than a destination – it’s the intentional combination of trails that challenge you, people who inspire you, incredible cuisine, and the wilderness luxury that ties it all together. This season, we have expanded our theme weekend and festival lineup to ensure every guest finds their own pace in the heart of Telemark.”
'Off-Grid Oasis'
Opening back in 2010, Canvas Telemark is the world’s first hotel designed specifically for mountain bikers.
Located in the remote Norwegian highlands, the unique property is 7 kilometers from the nearest village and is only accessible by a 2-kilometer trek or guided transfer, allowing for a true off-the-grid experience and access to 20 kilometers of world-class slickrock trails.
However, it does still offer luxury and relaxation, along with adventure, with its wilderness spa’s wood-fired saunas and outdoor tubs, along with its Kyrgyz-style yurts with transparent roof domes designed for midnight stargazing.
"Canvas is about stripping away the distractions of modern life," says Jørgen. "Whether you’re stargazing from your bed or sharing stories by the fire, it’s the combination of challenging trails and raw wilderness luxury that creates such a powerful reset."
The hotel offers travelers a rare blend of adventure, from world-class technical terrain, luxury off-grid yurt living, and what it describes as "a refined take on friluftsliv," which is the Norwegian philosophy of life in the great outdoors.
