ED Telehealth Platform Expands Offerings
Telehealth company Hims & Hers has added a blood test to its offerings. Galleri created the Grail blood test to detect a range of cancers. It’s designed to be used in addition to seeing your healthcare provider, not instead of. You should still get regular screenings like a colonoscopy, starting at age 45. The test is for people age 50 and up, who have an increased risk of cancer than people younger than 50.
If you are a subscriber, you can get a $250 discount on the Galleri test when you request one through a Hims prescription. If you request the test from the Galleri website, they are currently offering a $125 discount using a discount code. Without any discount, the test costs up to $949.
What Cancers Does Galleri Test For?
The Galleri website lists all the cancers it can detect, but here are a few:
“We know that cancers found early, before they’ve spread, can potentially have better outcomes than those caught later after the cancer has spread,” Pat Carroll, M.D., chief medical officer at Hims & Hers, said in a news release.
This test is not yet FDA-approved.
Warnings
The Galleri test doesn’t detect all cancers, as not all cancers are detectable in the blood. You can also get false positives and false negatives.
