Kanye West's Wife Bianca Censori Tried to Leave Rapper Before Rehab Stay
Kanye West's wife Bianca Censori tried to leave the rapper "a number of times" before he went to rehab in Switzerland, a source close to the couple told People Friday.
The source explained, "Bianca had been very unhappy in their marriage for a while and tried to get out a number of times."
West, 48, recently issued a lengthy apology for years of violent and antisemitic commentary, as well as for how he has treated people in his life. West, 48, began the letter by referencing his 2002 car accident, which he said “broke my jaw and caused injury to the right frontal lobe of my brain.” He added that he suffered additional neurological damage that wasn’t detected until 2023.
West also revealed he went to a rehabilitation facility in Switzerland for treatment.
Kanye West Has Been Stuck In A "Vicious Cycle"
A second source with knowledge of the dynamic also told People that West has been battling his mental health for some time. "He's been in this vicious cycle for years. When he's not in a good space mentally, he tends to create so much drama, which then has lasting consequences," they explained.
The source added: "And when he reaches a more stable place, he becomes very aware of the damages he's caused his family, friends and himself. The awareness brings this intense guilt and regret, making it hard for him to stay emotionally healthy. He understands what he's done and that weighs heavily on him. By the time he's feeling clearer, there's already so much fallout."
People also published a statement from John Monopoly, who discovered West and was his manager in the 1990s. "For the first time in a while, he is really approaching his mental health head-on and making a valiant effort to deal with it. He really cares and he's trying to do better. I have bipolar and have been dealing with it for 31 years, so I understand how difficult it is," Monopoly said in part.
West responded to suggestions his apology was little more than a PR stunt in an interview with Vanity Fair this week. He insisted that his attempt at making amends "isn't about reviving my commerciality" and is instead part of a larger attempt at doing the right thing.
“This is because these remorseful feelings were so heavy on my heart and weighing on my spirit,” he told the outlet by email. “I owe a huge apology once again for everything that I said that hurt the Jewish and Black communities in particular. All of it went too far. I look at wreckage of my episode and realize that this isn’t who I am. As a public figure, so many people follow and listen to my every word. It’s important that they realize and understand what side of history that I want to stand on. And that is one of love and positivity.”
Kanye West Admitted To Hurting People Who Love Him
West also acknowledged, "Some of the people I love the most, I treated the worst. You endured fear, confusion, humiliation, and the exhaustion of trying to love someone who was, at times, unrecognizable. Looking back, I became detached from my true self."
Censori and West were first linked in January 2023, soon after the rapper finalized his divorce from ex-wife Kim Kardashian. (West and Kardashian share four children: North, Saint, Chicago, and Psalm). TMZ reported at the time that the pair had married earlier in the same month.
