This New Spotify Feature Makes Creating the Perfect Workout Playlist Shockingly Easy

0 0

Making a workout playlist is its own form of art. Because it's not just a simple matter of "making" a playlist, is it? It requires you to sort through your vast music library, and then go through the tedious process of curating the playlist to accurately match the energy of your workout. No matter if you love or hate the process, Spotify's latest feature is sure to make you swoon.

Spotify recently rolled out its "Prompted Playlist" feature, which allows users to create playlists using their own words and everyday vernacular. The music streaming app asks you to describe your perfect playlist in as much detail as you want, and then spews out a playlist to match your instruction.

For example, you might write something like: "Give me a high-energy EDM playlist for my hour-long HIIT workout. All songs should be five-minutes to guide my set. Start with a 5-minute warm-up and end with a 5-minute cool-down track and ensure these tracks standout from the rest. Keep everything over 120 BPM. Include only new-to-me tracks."

From there, Spotify recruits the help of trends, charts, culture, and listening history to generate your new playlist. It factors in your entire tenure as a Spotify user, meaning each playlist reflects the full arc of your music taste. Every song even includes a quick one-liner, explaining why it was chosen for your playlist.

Personally, my favorite part of Prompted Playlists is the ability to efficiently discover new music. When you listen to the same songs and artists on repeat, it's easy to get stuck in a music rut. Yes, I'm speaking from firsthand experience! This is a seamless way to expand your palate while getting songs on your radar that you might have otherwise missed.

Plus, you can rediscover old songs you used to love that you might have forgotten about.

Edit the prompt anytime, or start fresh with a new playlist. You can also choose to set it to refresh songs daily or weekly.

“We hear from listeners all the time that they love playlists, but making their own can feel daunting,” said Sulinna Ong, Spotify's Global Head of Editorial. “Prompted Playlist offers a more intuitive entry point, letting users begin with moods, moments, or ideas in their own words, and build something that feels personal.”

To get started using Prompted Playlists, simply click the "Create" tab in the Spotify app. Click "Prompted Playlist," and the text box will appear. Add your playlist description, and then click "Generate playlist."
