Navitas Organics Recalls Some Organic Chia Seeds
On January 23, 2026, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that Navitas Organics had issued a voluntary recall for several lots of its 8 oz. organic chia seeds. The affected packages were sold and shipped throughout the U.S. by retailers like Amazon and Whole Foods Market.
The precautionary recall stems from a possible Salmonella contamination from the supplier. However, when the recall was issued, no Salmonella had been detected in the product, and there hadn't been any reported instances of illnesses or medical events.
The following table represents the Navitas Organics products that are included in the recall. None of the company's other products has been affected at the time of publication. The UPC Lot and product description appear the same on each affected package, so it is the codes and Best if Used By dates that will help consumers identify the recalled product. The 9-digit lot codes, which start with a W, are printed on the back of the Navitas Organics chia seeds packages above the nutritional information.

Anyone who has one of the affected packages of chia seeds is being instructed not to consume them. Instead, they are being asked to, "open the bag, discard the chia seeds, and dispose of the bag in a manner that makes it unusable." They can then seek a refund or replacement from the company of purchase or contact Navitas Consumer Care with any questions between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. from Monday to Friday at 855-215-5702.
The FDA notice includes this statement from Navitas Organics CEO Ira Haber. "Navitas has provided Organic Chia Seeds to our customers for more than 20 years. Providing safe, healthy food for our customers is why we have been in business this long, and it’s why we are recalling this product today.” The recall notice also states that the company apologizes for any inconvenience and is working closely with the FDA on the issue.
