One of Reality TV’s Most Iconic Shows Celebrated 20 Years this Month. Stream It on Disney+

0 1

It’s hard to believe that 2006 was 20 years ago, especially if you’re a millennial such as myself. Back then, one of the most entertaining reality TV shows ever debuted, and somehow the momentous occasion has gone by largely uncelebrated. A fact that is quite shocking, considering how big the series was.

During its three-season run, the dating show was a source of many laughs and memorable moments. We’re talking over-the-top verbal insults, interesting culinary activities, epic clashes among personalities, and the emergence of one of the greatest reality TV stars to ever grace a small screen. Ironically though, for a dating show, it’s hard to recall any lasting love connection ever being made. So what’s the series celebrating its 20th?

The legendary series Flavor of Love first debuted on VH1 on January 1, 2006. It followed Flavor Flav of the Grammy-nominated rap group Public Enemy, and saw him wade through a sea of ladies in his search for love. The show borrowed from ABC’s The Bachelor format, but it was a little more provocative, with arguably way more must-watch moments.

Who can forget the Season 1 cooking challenge Flav hosted, in which the women vying for his heart were tasked with preparing a dish for his mother. It was Hottie (Schatar Sapphira Taylor) who decided to cook a whole raw chicken in the microwave. Needless to say, the final presentation of her chicken was nothing shy of grotesque and downright inedible. However, it made for a funny scene.

Staying in Season 1, the fight between Pumpkin (Brooke Thompson) and New York (Tiffany Pollard) may be one of the most-talked-about rivalries of that decade. The moment Pumpkin spat at New York during an elimination, causing New York to lunge at her in retaliation, is still sketched in the minds of countless millennials.

And it should go without saying that Pollard became a household name thanks to Flavor of Love. To this day, no one has been able to replicate her secret sauce for success on reality TV, and she’s still managing to be a topic of conversation for millions of TV watchers today. Heck, she’s starring in her third season of House of Villains this year.

How to Watch 'Flavor of Love'?

All three seasons of Flavor of Love are currently available to stream on both Disney+ and Hulu. You’ll need a subscription to the platforms in order to watch. Now, if you wanted to watch for free, that’s also an option. Currently, the series is available on Tubi, Pluto TV, and The Roku Channel.
