Leonardo DiCaprio Just Set a Record Only 7 Actors Have Ever Achieved
It’s been less than one week since Leonardo DiCaprio received his eighth-ever Oscar nomination—this one as Best Lead Actor for his work in Paul Thomas Anderson’s critically acclaimed One Battle After Another. But on Tuesday, he received an even more prestigious honor.
The BAFTA Film Awards, England’s version of the Oscars, were announced on Tuesday, and DiCaprio earned a Best Actor nomination—his seventh ever following previous nods for The Aviator in 2005, The Departed in 2007, The Wolf of Wall Street in 2014, The Revenant in 2016 (which he won), Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood in 2020, and Don’t Look Up in 2022.
As Variety reports, the latest nod is not just an achievement on its own, but puts the 51-year-old movie star into a very select group of actors who have received seven Best Actor BAFTA nominations, which is a record number.
DiCaprio joins a distinguished club of six other actors who are also seven-time BAFA nominees: Daniel Day-Lewis, Michael Caine, Laurence Olivier, Jack Lemmon, Peter Finch, and Dustin Hoffman.
DiCaprio has further set himself apart from this group by becoming the youngest actor to ever achieve the honor—though not by much. Dustin Hoffman gained his entry into this exclusive club in 1989 for his role in Rain Man, when he was 52, while DiCaprio is 51.
Who Received BAFTA Film Award Nominations for Best Actor in 2026?
While the BAFTAs’ Best Actor category has six contenders versus the Oscars’ five nominees, there’s a fair amount of crossover between the two groups.
At the BAFTAs, DiCaprio will face off against Michael B. Jordan for Sinners, Timothée Chalamet for Marty Supreme, Ethan Hawke for Blue Moon, Jesse Plemons for Bugonia, and Robert Aramayo for the Scottish biopic I Swear.
In addition to DiCaprio, the Academy Awards also recognized Jordan, Chalamet, and Hawke for their work, as well as Wagner Moura for The Secret Agent, a Brazilian political thriller that surprised with four nominations, including a Best Picture nod in addition to a Best International Feature Film nom. Plemons’ exclusion was widely considered a snub, with even his wife, Kirsten Dunst, expressing her disappointment.
The BAFTA Awards will be held on February 22, 2026.
