Netflix Quietly Canceled 3 TV Shows in January
Viewers have never been more inundated with content in the history of media than right now. With every major media conglomerate creating their own streaming platforms in addition to a cable product, fans are swimming in TV shows and movies - so much so that not all of them can be watched.
Netflix alone releases more than 700 titles a year, according to Investing.com. With the heavy investment in new content, the streaming giant isn't immune to creating shows that don't live up to the audience's standards or simply don't receive enough eyeballs to continue.
The company quietly canceled three shows in January alone.
'Alice in Borderland' Canceled
Alice in Borderland became a fan-favorite show with its first two seasons and racked up 25 million views in its third season, which left fans wondering if a fourth season would coming in the near future.
Netflix never officially confirmed Season 3 was the final season before its release, leaving fans guessing. Those fans hoping for a fourth season received disappointing news in the streaming giant’s “What We Watched: The Second Half of 2025” engagement report.
“Fans also flocked to titles from Japan like Last Samurai Standing Season 1 (21M) and third and final season of Alice in Borderland (25M). The Elixir (23M) from Indonesia and The Ba***ds of Bollywood Season 1 (10M) from India also stood out,” the release said.
'The Abandons' Canceled After 1 Season
Following the success of Yellowstone, many streaming services adapted a Western-style shows focusing on ranch life - and perils. The Abandons was the latest swing from Netflix that starred Gillian Anderson and Lena Headey as rival matriarchs battling for supremacy in 1850's Washington.
According to Deadline, The Abandons pulled in 19.8 million views in 28 days following its release on December 4, spending two weeks among the streaming service’s Top 10 English-Language Series. However, the show suffered a steep drop off with just 4.8 million more views after those two weeks.
Netflix's Critical Success 'The Vince Staples Show' Canceled
In addition to reporting the end of The Abandons, Deadline also revealed Netflix pulled the plug on critical success The Vince Staples Show after two seasons. "Kind of famous and sort of rich, rapper-actor Vince Staples navigates the challenges of everyday life in his hometown of The Beach," the tagline for the show reads.
Despite its critical success - 94% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes - the show never charted on Netflix’s Weekly Top 10 with only 1.7 million views between its Season 2 premiere on Nov. 6, 2025 and the end of the year.
