Howard Stern Gets Unexpected Al Roker Reaction After Asking About 'Weather Groupies'
Howard Stern had plenty of questions for longtime television host Al Roker this week — and some of them veered into unexpected territory.
Stern, 72, made a surprise appearance on Today in honor of Roker's 30th anniversary as the show's weather anchor. While on the show, Stern admitted he had a question for Roker that might be seen as "controversial" but added that "everybody wants to know."
"I know you don't like controversy, but — do you have weather groupies?" Stern asked. "Are there women out there who are ready to sleep with you in a minute?"
Stern insisted he was "seriously" asking the question before he added, "Answer the question. Have there been women who have thrown themselves at you, and you have to say, 'Look, I'm a professional — no.' Has there been anything tawdry?"
Roker, who has been married to his wife Deborah Roberts since 1995 laughed at first — but then insisted, "No" before he added that co-host Craig Melvin has "thrown himself at me."
Al Roker Says He Isn't Thinking About Retiring Anytime Soon
Roker previously admitted toPeople that, despite his lengthy time on the air, he isn't really contemplating retiring anytime soon. "I love what I do," he said. "I feel good. I love this job. I love doing it."
Roker added: "I think that’s the beauty of the broadcast, is that the mission over these 74 years has not changed. The way we bring it to you may have, and look, the fact of the matter is we are each temporary custodians of this legacy … At some point I won’t be part of the show, somebody else will be, but to be part of a pretty cool club is very special. To say that this was a dream job isn’t really accurate because it never dawned on me that I could be on the Today show."
Roker joined the morning show in 1996, but he began his career with NBC in 1978 when he joined a local station in Cleveland, Ohio. He moved back to New York five years later, and a job happened to open up.
"Six months after I got there, Frank Field, who was the preeminent weatherman in not just New York City, but probably the country, decided to go over to Channel 2, so I got the Monday through Friday job. If I had not been in position to get that job doing the weekend weather with NBC, I don't know where I'd be today," he toldBusiness Insider in 2020.
Roker celebrated his 45th anniversary with NBC in December 2023.
