As a post on the FDA's website shows, Tri-Union Seafoods announced a voluntary recall of its popular Genova Yellowfin Tuna on January 16, 2026. The company provided Men's Journal with a statement, which revealed the important information that there haven’t been any illnesses reported in connection with the recall. "To date, there have been no confirmed reports of illness associated with the affected products."

Tri-Union Seafoods's statement explained the reason why they initiated the recall and a previous similar action in February 2025. "The February 2025 recall was voluntary and taken out of an abundance of caution after our lid supplier notified us of a manufacturing defect affecting the 'easy open' pull-tab lids on a limited number of products that may compromise the integrity of the product seal (especially over time)."

The statement continued, "The current action was initiated after we learned that quarantined cases were inadvertently shipped by a third-party distributor. Safety remains our number one concern. We are working closely with the third-party distributor to understand how this mistake occurred and to prevent it from happening again."

The FDA's website shows that the company has provided specific details about how customers can identify whether the tuna cans they've purchased may be affected.
