Wingstop Launches New Flavors Just In Time for the Super Bowl
The Super Bowl is just two weeks away, which means people all over the country will be eating off massive trays of wings. Why are wings such a staple football food anyway? Because it's easy to yell at the TV between nibbles?
Regardless, traditions are traditions. To stay fresh on every wing lover's mind, Wingstop surely not coincidentally introduced not just one new limited time wing flavor, but two of them.
Introducing Wingstop's Hot Honey Trio
Sweet and sour used to be all the rage. Now, it's sweet and spicy. Wingstop has had its Hot Honey Rub for a few years now. Clearly, it's proven popular, because now it has two younger siblings: Sweet Garlic Hot Honey and Saucy Sriracha Hot Honey.
The traditional Hot Honey Rub is, as its name suggests, a dry rub. Saucy Sriracha Hot Honey is, as its name suggests, saucy. It's also the hotter younger sibling (relatable!) thanks to the presence of the Thai hot sauce. Sweet Garlic Hot Honey is, as its name suggests, garlicky. It's not as hot as Saucy Sriracha, but has a little more savory flavor than the dry rub.
"Hot Honey fans are passionate, and we wanted to give them more ways to indulge," Michael Skipworth, Wingstop's CEO and president, said in a press release.
That much is true. Hot honey and chicken appear to be having a prom night moment. Last year, KFC collabed with Mike's Hot Honey to create a sticky, spicy limited time menu. The sauce was available on fried chicken, tenders, and even the chain's chicken sandwich. Clearly KFC's trial balloon flew high enough for Wingstop to take notice.
Even McDonald's just announced they're hopping on the hot honey bandwagon. The company announced it will be launching its own hot honey sauce as well as a slew of hot honey sandwiches on January 27.
