Hollywood Stars Pair Up in Ads for Widely Prescribed Diabetes Drug
Known for their comedy chops in movies, podcasts, and TV shows, Justin Long and John Hodgman explain how Ozempic (semaglutide) stands apart from other GLP-1 medications in a new series of pharmaceutical ads,” There’s Only One Ozempic.” You may remember the duo from the iconic “I’m a Mac; I’m a PC” commercials. They bring the same comedic magic, but for a more serious cause: diabetes medication and education.
Hodgman explains how he jumped at the opportunity to work with Long, who has been a friend and creative collaborator for years. “Here was an opportunity to use our chemistry and humor to encourage people to have a different conversation with their doctor about the FDA-approved uses of Ozempic,” he said.
“Humor has a way of opening the door to conversations people might otherwise avoid,” Long said. “This campaign uses that idea thoughtfully and meets people where they are consuming content while helping them feel comfortable enough to learn more about their health.”
The Ozempic website says that in adults with type 2 diabetes and chronic kidney disease, Ozempic is FDA-approved to reduce the risk of worsening kidney disease, kidney failure (end-stage kidney disease), and death due to heart disease. It’s available in 0.5 mg, 1 mg, or 2 mg in an injectable prescription medicine to improve blood sugar (glucose), along with diet and exercise.
Long said he knew people, even before the campaign, who used Ozempic and it’s “had a profound impact on their lives.”
Both actors agree that it’s been a great opportunity to share clear information in a fun way that cuts through the crowded information landscape. “Not all GLP-1s are the same, and people with type 2 diabetes should talk with their doctors about whether Ozempic is right for them,” said Ed Cinca, Senior Vice President, Marketing & Patient Solutions at Novo Nordisk Inc.
Ozempic is not without potential side effects or risks. Watch out for nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, or constipation. You may also increase the risk of thyroid tumors, including cancer, by taking Ozempic.
