Kayak surfing Mundaka, Basque Country

0 1

Last December, Jon Etxeberria & Aiur Illarreta kayak surfed some of the best waves ever seen in Mundaka in the Basque Country. Watch their video and read about one of those rare days surfing this legendary wave with little crowd around.

Mundaka, in the Basque Country, is one of the most perfect waves on the planet, a true surfing temple known worldwide. On good days, catching a wave there can be almost impossible due to the crowds. But December 9th was different. Strong winds kept many people out of the water.

We saw something else. We saw potential. We saw clean, powerful lines and a rare opportunity. For hours, Mundaka was firing in a way it rarely does, working well beyond its usual low-tide window. We had the chance to surf some of the biggest and most beautiful waves of our lives. Several professional surfers in the lineup said it was one of the best days of the year.

The conditions were heavy and the wind added an extra layer of risk, but with respect for the ocean and a clear reading of the moment, everyone made it out safely. One of those unforgettable days in one of the most special places in the world.
