Love New Riff’s Malted Rye Whiskey? Now You Can Buy a Whole Barrel of It

0 2

New Riff Distilling is a relative newcomer to the competitive and crowded Kentucky whiskey scene, since it only dates to 2014. But it has quickly made a name for itself with an impressive range of expressions that combine cutting-edge techniques with time-honored traditions and ingredients. One of its most popular whiskeys is its 6-year-old bottled-in-bond malted rye, which was introduced in 2021.

Now, super fans of the malted rye whiskey can buy a whole barrel of it, which usually yields about 180 bottles depending upon the individual cask selected.

There's one major difference between the standard and the single barrel version of the malted rye: The single barrel version is bottled at cask strength. (The standard malted rye is bottled at 100 proof.)

The purpose of New Riff’s single barrel program is to show drinkers the inherent differences between barrels containing the exact same whiskey. This is why more often than not, any given bottle of whiskey contains liquid blended from several barrels. A single barrel is a true reflection of the subtle differences in the oak barrels and the micro climates in the warehouses.

“Our Single Barrel Malted Rye showcases the whiskey in its purest form,” master distiller Brian Sprance said in a statement. “Crafted from 100% malted rye, a rare style in today’s whiskey market, each barrel offers its own distinct flavor profile, with bold fruit character balanced by soft caramel undertones that let the whiskey speak for itself.”

New Riff Single Barrel Malted Rye selections are available by full barrel January 2026 at the distillery in Newport, KY. Alongside the malted rye whiskey, the brand’s single barrel program will continue to offer its 6-year-old bourbon, 4-year-old bourbon and 6-year-old rye selections—the latter two of which are available in smaller quantities starting at 90 bottles.
