Video Captures Moment Shark Chomps on Snorkeler's Leg
A woman snorkeling while on vacation suffered a gruesome injury. Miraculously, the woman reportedly says the horrific and bloody bite was only superficial, and she continued on her vacation.
According to reports, the bloody scene occurred on Friday when lawyer and avid surfer Tayane Dalazen, who is from São Paulo, was snorkeling in Brazil's Praia do Porto in Fernando de Noronha, Pernambuco.
The Brazilian newspaper O Globo reports that Dalazen was traveling with friends. She was also traveling with a local guide when she jumped into the water to enjoy the scenery.
It Was No 'Shark Attack'
You can see in the video the 36-year-old's nonchalantly navigating the waters when the shark, out of nowhere, lunges for her and starts chomping on her leg.

The video instantly shakes when the horrific commotion unfolds. Despite the ordeal, Dalazen said she doesn't blame the shark.
"That area is a habitat for wild animals. We went into his habitat," she said. "It wasn't a sudden attack. It was an accident."
Shark Refused to Release Her
O Globo reports that the shark would not let go of her leg. She told the outlet that it wasn't until her guide, Nego Noronha, struck the shark, which then released the woman's leg.
"I felt him shaking my leg. I thought I couldn't put my hand out because he might rip it off," she told O Globo. "Nego started punching the shark and it let go of me."
Fortunately for Dalazen, who earlier in the day had been swimming with turtles, a friend of hers on the trip is a dermatological surgeon, and it was that friend who provided initial care when she came out of the water.

Miraculously, Dalazen suffered only superficial wounds. The bite did not penetrate to the tendons or muscles. In fact, Dalazen needed only two stitches, a tetanus shot, and antibiotics.
"Will I have a scar? Yes," she said. "But I'll be a surfer with a shark scar. I think it even gives me some prestige."
