Skier's Wild Video From Inside Avalanche Goes Viral

0 3

Ares Masip and her dog, Cim, were enjoying a picturesque winter day in Pic de l'Hortell, a mountain in the Pyrenees in Andorra, when near tragedy struck.

A camera, presumably on her helmet, was recording when, out of nowhere, an avalanche was somehow triggered.

According to a video obtained by BBC News, the Spanish skier can be heard telling her dog in Spanish to stay put as the two began being swept along by the avalanche.

In Her Own Words

"The mountain was falling apart," she told the news outlet. "It was an avalanche. And for me, that wast the worst second [of my life]."

She said she and Cim went down for a stroll on Jan. 8 as they do almost every day.

"We went to the mountain to ski in an area we are familiar with," she continued. "We had gone down the same route days before."

She said she checked the avalanche danger bulletin and that there was a "risk 1" in the area. She said she saw people skiing down the hill when she and Cim climbed the mountain.

"By the fourth turn, the mountain broke down at my feet," she said. "And it was breaking as far as I could see. I didn't know how serious it was. And after several seconds sliding down, I saw that the scar of the avalanche was not that deep."

Cim's a Good Boy But ...

Still, she says she wanted her dog to stay put. But he's a dog, she joked, so the dog came towards her.

Fortunately, she said nothing happened to Cim or her during the 30-second ordeal. And while her body was shaking from the incident, the Spanish skier said that Cim looked completely fine and shook off the snow from his body and stared at her as if, "Can we keep running down the hill?"

Masip said she learned that there's no such thing as "zero risk" when it comes to skiing.
