New Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Con Controllers Finally Revealed
It's been roughly seven months since the release of the Nintendo Switch 2, and despite being one of the fastest-selling video game consoles in history, with notable improvements over the original Switch, there were some limitations. Notably, the Switch 2 launch did not include any additional Joy-Con 2 controller options besides the standard red and blue. That is about to change in February.
Revealed by Nintendo after theMario Tennis Fevergameplay overview trailer was released, there will be a new Joy-Con color set available. Instead of red and blue, this new set is light purple and light green.
The new Joy-Con 2 colors are priced the same as the standard red and blue ones: $99.99. They also do not possess any exclusive or new features--the same controllers as before, with a fresh coat of paint.
Reactions to the new colors seem to be mixed, overall. Fans seem to appreciate a new color scheme, especially after the Switch 1 had several different color schemes and special edition controllers, but the new colors are used the same way as the current red and blue controllers. The controllers feature very little of the color when they are docked to the console or in the controller grip, showing the color almost exclusively under the control sticks.
On Nintendo of America's announcement post on X, fans are all over the place with responses. Deez Games wrote, "abysmal design choice... The whole controller should've been the new color."
Meanwhile, Tyler Koberstein quoted the post and added, "Fine I’ll take my wallet out."
Several fans are taking note of the $99.99 price tag. PAB Games stated that they like the color scheme, but that the price might be a bit high.
The new purple and light green Joy-Con 2 controllers are available for pre-order now and will be released on February 12, alongside Mario Tennis Fever, exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2.
