HBO Max’s ‘The Pitt’ Gets Good News Ahead of Season 2 Premiere
While being dubbed “the best show on TV” is typically a matter of opinion, in the case of The Pitt it seems to be fact.
If the pulse-pounding medical drama’s surprise domination at the most recent Emmys, where where it took home five awards—including Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Supporting Actress for Katherine LaNasa, and Outstanding Lead Actor for star/executive producer Noah Wyle—doesn’t prove its superlative standing, its near-perfect Rotten Tomatoes scores might.
The HBO Max series’ first season, which premiered last year, holds a 95 percent score on the Tomatometer, while the all-new second season—which premieres on Thursday, January 8th—boasts an even-better 97 percent.
On Wednesday, the day before The Pitt’s sophomore season debuted, HBO announced that a third season has already been greenlit. Variety reported the news, which was announced by CEO Casey Bloys at the the season 2 premiere at Los Angeles’ DGA Theater.
What Is The Pitt About?
The Pitt is set in the ER of the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center, a.k.a. The Pitt, where an overworked and underpaid team of doctors, nurses, interns, and other medical professionals must always be ready to deal with whatever injury or catastrophe the world chooses to send them that day, from drug overdoses to mass shootings. The series, which was created by R. Scott Gemmill, takes place in real time, which only adds to the anxiety-inducing feeling each episode brings.
The Pitt’s second season takes place approximately 10 months after the events of season 1, and will play out over a Fourth of July weekend. Most of the Season 1 cast will be returning, led by Wyle as Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch. Early reviews for the new season have been astounding.
