'Final Fantasy 14' Fans Experiencing Numerous DDoS Attacks Upon Savage Content Release

0 33

Final Fantasy14 got a new update this morning that added the Savage versions of the latest raid tier, The Arcadion: Heavyweight (Savage), but some fans are reporting several connection issues and are attributing the problems to Final Fantasy 14's consistent issue with DDoS attacks.

In a Reddit thread by HellaSteve, fans are discussing their experiences with the DDoS attacks, and HellaSteve claims to have been disconnected three times within 30 minutes of the Savage content being added early this morning.

Other users are experiencing similar issues, reportedly. Some users are also reporting that the Europe and Japan servers seem to be operating normally, and are alleging that the DDoS attacks are being targeted specifically at North American servers. User Lindaru wrote in a reply to the thread, "It's only US servers, but JPN/EU servers are still fine, which is really weird."

Several fans are discussing the possibilities of Square Enix taking the DDoS attacks more seriously now that it appears to be happening more frequently. User WondrousNomenclature wrote, "...maybe this will garner more attention/initiative from SE, since its actively gimping the World First Race for U.S. players; not a good look for the game in general..."

Several fans are also reporting that the Savage fights are not completable at the moment due to numerous connection issues, preventing players from being able to stay connected long enough to do the fight.

Upon the Savage content update this morning, Square Enix made an official statement on the game's website and confirmed the source of the connection issues was indeed numerous DDoS attacks.

The post reads, "We are currently experiencing technical difficulties due to a DDoS attack.
Players may experience the following issues as a result. We are investigating the attack and taking countermeasures. Additional information will be provided as the situation develops."

Square Enix highlighted the North America Data Centers as the ones experiencing disconnections and server issues.

Square Enix has not yet released a follow-up statement or any additional information.
