This Is the Best American City for Jobs, New Study Says
In America, the job market is a focal point for politicians and something all workers must consider, whether they're looking for employment or attempting to leave their current role for a new position elsewhere.
The market is always changing, and is can also be more or less robust depending on location. A new study from personal finance company WalletHub examined 180 American cities across 31 factors to determine which places have the best local job markets.
“It’s important to look at more than just the number of jobs available or the unemployment rate when determining the best place to find employment," said WalletHub analyst Chip Lupo. "Quality matters just as much as quantity, from the average salaries and benefits to job security and overall satisfaction. There are plenty of secondary factors to take into account as well, from how easy a city makes commuting to jobs to whether it’s a good place for raising a family or engaging in recreational activities outside of work.”
The 5 best cities for jobs, according to WalletHub
- Scottsdale, Arizona
- Columbia, Maryland
- Portland, Maine
- South Burlington, Vermont
- Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
What makes Scottsdale No. 1?
Part of the Phoenix metropolitan area, Scottsdale is known for its golf and vacation spots, as well as its ever-growing real estate market.
The WalletHub study says the Maricopa County municipality has the best local job market in the country, and ranks 16th out of 180 cities in socioeconomics. Scottsdale also has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the United States.
"Scottsdale doesn’t just deliver quantity when it comes to jobs, though – it has quality as well," WalletHub writes. "This is evidenced by the fact that the city has one of the highest median household incomes in the country, at over $101,000, adjusted for the cost of living."
Additionally, Scottsdale ranks seventh for best recreation and 12th among the best cities for families, while also having a low violent crime rate.
