'Landman' Season 2, Episode 8's Ending Creates a Surprisingly Upbeat Twist
Throughout Landman Season 2, things have seemingly gone from bad to worse for everyone in the orbit of the Norris family. But in Season 2, Episode 8, "Handsome Touched Me," the ending of the episode seems to suggest that maybe, just maybe, Season 2 could be gesturing toward more positive plot resolutions than everyone might have assumed.
While there are certainly some bigger twists still coming in the final two episodes of Season 2, the ending of Landman Season 2, Episode 8's biggest twist was that there wasn't really a twist at all. Spoilers ahead.
Landman Season 2 Episode 8, Ending Explained
Throughout Episode 8, the concept of taking big chances becomes the overriding theme of everyone's individual stories. Angela (Ali Larter) wins big at a local casino, Cooper's (Jacob Lofland) oil wells are doing better and better, and, on Charlie's (Guy Burnet) advice, Cami (Demi Moore) is intent on taking a big gamble and drilling in a spot in the ocean where there may or may not be any profit.
But the quieter story was all about Tommy (Billy Bob Thornton) hiring a stripper named Cheyenne (Francesca Xuereb) to become his father, T.L.'s (Sam Elliot) physical therapist. Tommy was taking a risk with this move too; it was unorthodox and, to an outside observer, maybe a bit seedy.
And yet, the ending of the episode proves this was a smart, wholesome idea, which seems to strike a note of hope for the rest of the series.
Landman Season 2's Remaining Episodes
The late-in-the-game introduction of Cheyenne seems oddly symbolic of the rest of Landman Season 2. Tommy was right to hire her to help his father, which could suggest that some other characters are correct to be playing their hunches, too. There are only two more episodes left in Landman Season 2, Episodes 9 and 10, and after that, Landman Season 3 will happen at some point.
Obviously, the biggest question for the rest of the season is whether or not Cami and Tommy can keep the company together without going totally into the red. And, if things do go sideways, we don't know how that fallout will affect Tommy's family. Right now, the ending of Episode 8 seemed like a calm moment. Is a storm coming? We'll have to wait and see.
