Jelly Roll Admits Heartbreaking Truth: 'I Never Planned on Living'

Country music superstar Jelly Roll has been open about his weight loss journey as he has shed over 200 pounds over the past several months. However, he recently opened up about just how vital it was for him to shed that weight.

During a recent interview, the country music superstar admitted that he believed he was months away from death before he began losing weight.

Jelly Roll's Weight Loss

Over the past several years and months, Jelly Roll has shed well over 200 pounds after his weight previously sat around 480 to 550 pounds as recently as 2022.

Jelly Roll has been open about his struggle with food addiction, which he says led to his extreme obesity.

“The battle was with food addiction,” Jelly Roll said in an interview with People earlier thisyear. “I’ve never had a healthy relationship with food, so that was the hard part…really fighting that demon at first and getting into that discipline and commitment. But once you get into that discipline and commitment, it’s like an avalanche.”

Jelly Roll has shed all of his weight without the help of popular weightloss drugs like Ozempic.

'I Could Feel Myself Dying'

While Jelly Roll has obviously been quite open about the positive impacts of his weightloss, the benefits have actually been far greater than that. In fact, Jelly Roll believes that the dramatic body transformation actually saved his life.

During a recent interview with Joe Rogan on The Joe Rogan Experience, Jelly Roll admitted that he believed he could only have lived another six to 12 months at his former weight.

"I don't think I'm making this up when I say I think I was six to 12 months away from missing it," Jelly Roll told Rogan during the interview. "Especially traveling – you know, I travel 280 days a year. At 500-something pounds, 200-something flights a year, 250 flights a year?"

Jelly Roll felt that by making it to 39 years old at his weight, he had "already cheated the game" after dealing with "multiple heart issues."

"I was like, ‘Man, I should really start trying to figure this out’ … I could feel myself dying, Joe," he said.

"I never planned on living, Joe," Jelly Roll confessed to Rogan. "Like, ever. It was never in my plan of life. Even as I was getting successful, like I was coming out here and life was getting good for me, and in my mind, I was like, ‘OK, good, at least when I die my kids might be OK, and they won’t be ashamed of me … at least their daddy died of obesity because he had mental health issues, but he was a cool [freaking] dude, man, who did some cool stuff, you know?"

Needless to say, the weightloss saved his life.
