Here Is the NBA Schedule for Christmas Day
Every year, one of the highlights of the NBA regular season is its annual Christmas Day showcase. The league attempts to feature its top teams and stars on Dec. 25, and this year, they certainly did just that.
In total, there are five games on television today, starting at noon ET and running past midnight. Each matchup has plenty of star power and intrigue, a bona fide Christmas feast for hoops fans.
Cleveland Cavaliers at New York Knicks (Noon ET, ABC and ESPN)
The Knicks (20-9) are coming off winning the in-season NBA Cup Tournament and boast two of the league's best in Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns. In this matchup, they will battle the 17-14 Cavs, who have struggled more than expected this year but still have plenty of talent, led by All-Star guard Donovan Mitchell.
ESPN Analytics gives the Knicks a 61.1% chance of winning at home at Madison Square Garden this afternoon. Ryan Ruocco (play-by-play), Doris Burke (game analyst) and Jorge Sedano (sideline reporter) will be on the call for ABC and ESPN.
San Antonio Spurs at Oklahoma City Thunder (2:30 p.m. ET, ABC and ESPN)
The Thunder have picked up where they left off after winning the NBA championship in June, going 26-4 to start the season. However, two of those four defeats came this month at the hands of the Spurs (22-7), including a 130-110 loss on Tuesday night.
This game features the top two teams in the Western Conference, superstar talents (OKC's Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and San Antonio's Victor Wembanyama) and elite role players. This will be a fun one for sure.
Oklahoma City is heavily favored at home, per ESPN's BPI. Mark Jones, Jay Bilas and Katie George will broadcast the action.
Dallas Mavericks at Golden State Warriors (5 p.m. ET, ABC and ESPN)
Standings-wise, neither of these teams is impressive. The Warriors are 15-15 and in eighth place in the Western Conference, while the Mavericks' 12-19 mark wouldn't even be enough to get them into the Play-In Tournament if the season ended today.
However, this game is about old and new. It marks one of the last chances to see Stephen Curry on Christmas, and the Christmas debut of Dallas rookie sensation Cooper Flagg.
Dave Pasch will provide play-by-play, with P.J. Carlesimo on analysis and Malika Andrews working the sidelines. Golden State has a 72% chance of winning at home, according to ESPN Analytics.
Houston Rockets at Los Angeles Lakers (8 p.m. ET, ABC and ESPN)
Just as we don't know how many more opportunities we'll have to see Steph Curry play on Christmas, it's possible this could be one of LeBron James' final games on Dec. 25.
James has missed some time this year with nagging injuries, but is still competing at a high level when he is on the court. Meanwhile, Luka Doncic (34.1 ppg, 8.6 rpg, 8.8 apg) has been brilliant for LA (19-9), and Austin Reaves (27.1 ppg) is a breakout star.
However, the 17-10 Rockets are favored to win, per ESPN BPI, led by Kevin Durant and Alperen Sengun. ESPN's "A" broadcast team of Mike Breen (play-by-play), Richard Jefferson and Tim Legler (game analysts) and Lisa Salters (sideline reporter) will be deployed for this Western Conference showdown.
Minnesota Timberwolves at Denver Nuggets (10:30 p.m. ET, ABC and ESPN)
Last, but certainly not least, we'll send Christmas and move into Dec. 26 with a matchup between the teams with the third and fifth-best records in the Western Conference, respectively.
Minnesota (20-10) is paced by Anthony Edwards and Julius Randle, while Denver (21-8) is led, as always, by all-world big man Nikola Jokic. The Nuggets currently have about a 60% shot of winning this one.
Marc Kestecher, Stephanie White and Alyssa Lang will broadcast this nightcap.
