Travis Kelce Breaks His Silence With an 8 Word Message on Retirement Decision

0 0

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce will not be playing for a Super Bowl this year as the Chiefs have already been eliminated from postseason contention with three weeks still remaining in the season. That means that in just a few weeks, Kelce will have a decision to make regarding his future with the team.

Though Kelce can see the end of the season coming, marking the point when he will have to decide whether or not to retire from the league, that doesn't necessarily mean that he wants to talk about it in the media.

Travis Kelce's Decision

After pondering retirement last year, Kelce returned to the Chiefs again for another season. However, he will once again have a retirement decision to make in just a few short weeks.

Given that Kelce is in the last year of his contract with the Chiefs, combined with his recent engagement to pop superstar Taylor Swift and a promising media and entertainment career that awaits him in retirement, there has been some heavy speculation that this could be his final season in the league.

Kelce knows that decision is coming, and did offer some insight on the timeline for that decision, saying that he expects to make the decision before free agency opens in March to allow the team plenty of time to make its plans for next season and beyond.

“Seeing my brother go through it, and seeing how the league works, the season re-starts in April, and I want to give the Chiefs a good opportunity, whether I come back or not, and vice versa — whether they want me back or not,” Kelce said last month. “I’d like to make that decision before they’ve got to get draft picks and free agency opens, or gives them an opportunity to fill the roster appropriately. All that will be at the end of the season. I won’t be thinking about it until then.”

Kelce Breaks His Silence

With the end of the season now coming sooner than he expected, Kelce now faces the reality of his decision a little bit earlier. However, even though the Chiefs are eliminated from playoff contention, Kelce still does not want to talk about his upcoming decision yet.

After declining to speak to the media after last week's loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, the superstar tight end broke his silence on the matter this week with an eight-word message about where things currently stand: "I’m focused on trying to win football games."

“I’d rather keep the focus of the media and everything on this team right now,” Kelce said via Pro Football Talk. “All the conversations I have with the team and everything moving forward will be with them. I think it’s a unique time in my life. Unfortunately I’ve got three games left and I know when the season ends this year. Typically we go into it and we don’t know when it’s going to end and that’s the beauty of it. Just trying to make sure that everybody here knows that I’m focused on trying to win football games, these last three games.”

Obviously, Kelce is going to have to make a decision. But he does not want to talk about that yet. In fact, it sounds like even his brother has been left in the dark.
