TSA Sends Clear Warning Amid Record Holiday Travel: 'Zero Tolerance'

0 10

The Transportation Security Administration issued a bold warning to travelers amid record travel for the holiday season following an altercation at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas.

A man later identified as Jhon Raul Vizcaino Ramirez allegeldy presented a Transportation Security Administration screening officer a boarding pass in the name of another person and attempted to enter the passenger boarding area.

After refusing to provide identification, Ramirez's boarding pass was confiscated and he allegedly slapped an officer, leading to further struggle between the traveler and officers with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

TSA Sends Clear Warning to Travelers

After the altercation, the TSA issued a clear warning to travelers, urging consequences for anyone who takes similar action.

"There is zero tolerance for assaulting our officers. Make no mistake, violators who threaten, endanger, or harm our officers will face severe penalties and legal action, with fines of up to $17,062," the TSA said in a message on social media.

Record Travel Expected for the Holiday Season

The warning from the TSA comes as a record number of Americans are expected to travel for the holiday season.

AAA projects 122.4 million Americans will travel at least 50 miles from home over the 13-day year-end holiday period beginning December 20 and ending January 1 - and increase from last year's record of 119.7 million travelers.

“People are eager to travel this holiday season,” Debbie Haas, Vice President of Travel for AAA – The Auto Club Group said in a statement. “That’s leading to record numbers on the roads and in the skies. Our advice is to plan ahead. Book early, allow extra time to reach your destination, and think about travel insurance if you’re flying during winter weather. It’s the best way to protect both your trip and your peace of mind.”
