Powerball Lottery Jackpot Soars to $1 Billion: How to Get the Winning Numbers
The Powerball lottery jackpot soared to $1 billion on December 13. What are the winning numbers?
According to the lottery's website, the cash value of the Saturday night drawing is $457.7 Million. How can you find out who won? The winning numbers will be drawn on "Saturday at 10:59 pm ET from the Florida Lottery draw studio in Tallahassee," the lottery says. The Powerball drawings are streamed live on the lottery's website. Powerball lottery winning numbers are also drawn at the same time every Monday and Wednesday live on the lottery's website. You can also sign up to get the winning numbers sent to your email.
Saturday’s jackpot "ranks as the seventh largest in Powerball history and the second jackpot this year to reach the $1 billion milestone, alongside the $1.787 billion prize won on Sept. 6 in Missouri and Texas," the lottery said in a news release.

According to the Powerball, "Powerball is played in 45 states, Washington DC, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. Sales cut-off times vary by one to two hours before the drawing, depending on the selling jurisdiction." Nevada, Utah and Alabama are among the U.S. states that don't participate in the Powerball.
"Jackpot winners may choose to receive their prize as an annuity, paid in 30 graduated payments over 29 years, or a lump-sum payment," the lottery says. "All lower-tier prizes are set cash amounts. In California, prize payout amounts are pari-mutuel and determined by sales and the number of winners."
“This $1 billion jackpot is giving everyone plenty to dream about this holiday season,” said Matt Strawn, Powerball Product Group Chair and Iowa Lottery CEO, in the release. “We hope players enjoy the excitement, but remember to play responsibly – the biggest win is having fun along the way.”
What are the Odds of Winning the $1 Billion Powerball Jackpot
The odds are not great. The odds of winning the grand prize are "1 in 292,201,338.00," according to the lottery, although a number of smaller, but still life-changing, prizes are awarded.
If a player wins the jackpot, "they will have the choice between an annuitized prize estimated at $1.0 billion or a lump sum payment estimated at $457.7 million," the lottery's release says. "Both prize options are before taxes. If the winner selects the annuity option, they will receive one immediate payment followed by 29 annual payments that increase by 5-percent each year."
According to the Powerball lottery: "Saturday’s drawing will be the 42nd in the current jackpot run – tying the game record for most consecutive drawings in a single jackpot cycle. The Powerball jackpot was last won on Sept. 6 by two tickets in Missouri and Texas that split a $1.787 billion prize."
