Well, Huckberry and Timex are back at it with another righteous re-issue—the 1979 Black Max. After nearly 50 years languishing in the historical catalogue, the duo has resurrected one of the watchmaker’s most sought-after vintage designs and the update ticks off not just the time but a ton of boxes.
The new Huckberry x Timex 1979 Black Max watch has a beefier 41mm black stainless steel case and matching steel bracelet are brush-finished for an under the radar matte effect. The dial features painted and lumed hour indexes as well as Arabic minute markers. Silver hour and minute hands match a tachymeter scale for calculating speed via an eye-catching orange seconds hand (though there is no way to stop or start it). The result gives Porsche Design vibes and echoes a retro race car gauge.

The watch is capped with a flat, mineral glass crystal and powered by a highly accurate, analogue quartz movement. A screw-down caseback, etched with the Huckberry logo, helps the watch achieve 100 meters of water resistance, making it fine for swimming, snorkeling, poolside diving or surfing. But if you’re going any deeper, best leave it behind as the watch is inadequate for scuba diving.

For those who would prefer to swap out the bracelet for a textile strap or leather band, the case features 20mm lugs. So, options across materials and colors abound.
The Huckberry x Timex 1979 Black Max is available now at both huckberry.com and timex.com for $249.
