Troubling Accusation Against Michigan Emerges After Sherrone Moore News
After watching the Lane Kiffin saga unfold in the SEC where he flirted with three different programs before ultimately leaving Ole Miss for LSU, college football fans weren't expecting another dramatic coaching change.
However, Michigan's decision to fire head coach Sherrone Moore started a firestorm of troubling information regarding the coach who helped the Wolverines win a national title before taking over the job from Jim Harbaugh.
Sherrone Moore Fired for Cause After 'Inappropriate Relationship' With Staff Member
On Wednesday, Dec. 10, Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel announced Moore was fired for cause following an inappropriate relationship with an unnamed staff member.
"U-M head football coach Sherrone Moore has been terminated, with cause, effective immediately. Following a University investigation, credible evidence was found that Coach Moore engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. This conduct constitutes a clear violation of University policy, and U-M maintains zero tolerance for such behavior," a statement from Manuel read.
Biff Poggi will serve as the team's interim coach as it prepares for a bowl game against Texas.
Troubling Accusation Made Against Michigan After Firing Moore
Not long after the news of Moore's firing broke, college football insider Josh Pate suggested the Wolverines knew of accusations against the head coach and waited to fire him.
“When they lost against USC [Oct. 11], clock was ticking, this was already bubbling behind the scenes by then,” Pate said on his “Josh Pate’s College Football Show” YouTube channel.
“This is one of those really interesting dynamics where there was a wild rumor circulating behind the scenes, and it was accurate,” he added. “This is what myself and several other people had heard a month ago … Let me put it this way: Agents [for potential coaching candidates] have expected the Michigan job to be coming open for several weeks now. That’s been expected behind the scenes.”
As of Wednesday, Dec. 10 night, Moore was in custody in the Washtenaw (Michigan) County Jail as a suspect in an alleged assault.
