Netflix Announces Major Decision on Wildly Popular Legal Drama

Netflix has announced a major decision on a wildly popular legal drama, and it's one fans have been anticipating for months.

The decision involves the popular series The Lincoln Lawyer's season 4. The show's return date has been announced. "The Lincoln Lawyer returns February 5! Here's your first look including sneak peeks at guest stars Constance Zimmer and Kyle Richards," Netflix wrote on December 10. Fans seemed happy with the new details. "House of Cards alums Neve Campbell and Constance Zimmer in The Lincoln Lawyer? Let’s gooo!" wrote one person on X. "The courtroom is about to detonate with aura," a fan responded.Wrote another fan: "Let’s go!!!… can’t believe it’s over a year since the first season."

The New Season Is Based on the 6th Book in 'the Lincoln Lawyer' Series

Although the legal drama's fourth season is coming, it's actually based on the sixth book in Michael Connelly’s The Lincoln Lawyer series, Variety reported. That book is called: “The Law of Innocence.”

What's the plot? Variety obtained the logline for the new season. “Mickey Haller (Manuel Garcia Rulfo) faces his toughest case yet as he and his team work tirelessly to prove his innocence in the murder of a former client, Sam Scales. To clear his name, they must unravel Sam’s final scam, forcing them to go head-to-head with the DA’s office, the FBI, and ghosts from Mickey’s own past," it reads.

The third season ended with Haller's arrest. "Mickey was pulled over" and arrested "when the body of a client was found in the trunk of his Lincoln. Next season will see Mickey defending himself as he goes on trial for murder," Deadline reported.

Not all fans were happy. "Netflix did a terrible job of promoting this show. I didn't even know there was a third season," an X user wrote.

It took Netflix quite some time to announce the release date for season four. The fourth season was announced way back in January 2025. "I need this show back pronto," another fan wrote.

Crime author Michael Connelly, who created the character, explained the background of Haller on his website. "J. Michael 'Mickey' Haller, Jr is a Los Angeles-based defense attorney and the paternal half-brother of Harry Bosch," he wrote.

Who Is Michael Connelly?

Who is Michael Connelly? "Connelly worked at newspapers in Daytona Beach and Fort Lauderdale, Florida, primarily specializing in the crime beat. In Fort Lauderdale he wrote about police and crime during the height of the murder and violence wave that rolled over South Florida during the so-called cocaine wars," his website says.

In 1986, the bio says, Connelly "and two other reporters spent several months interviewing survivors of a major airline crash. They wrote a magazine story on the crash and the survivors which was later short-listed for the Pulitzer Prize for feature writing. The magazine story also moved Connelly into the upper levels of journalism, landing him a job as a crime reporter for the Los Angeles Times, one of the largest papers in the country, and bringing him to the city of which his literary hero, Chandler, had written."
