Over 1,500 Dozen Eggs Recalled Due to Salmonella Concerns

0 15

There have been several recent food recalls due to concerns about salmonella contamination. One of the latest announcements comes from a major farm in California.

Last Friday, Dec. 5, Vega Farms in Dixon, Calif. recalled more than 1,500 eggs due to possible salmonella exposure. The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) confirmed the recall.

What to know

The recall covers 12-count cartons and 30-count flats of eggs with the "Sell By" dates of Dec. 22, 2025 and prior and Julian dates of 328 and prior.

The eggs, which also contain the handler code 2136, have been distributed throughout the Sacramento and Davis areas, including to restaurants and farmers markets.

A Vega Farms spokesperson told KCRA that around 1,515 dozen eggs were impacted by the recall. They also added that the potential contamination was from the farm's processing equipment, but its flock of chickens was not affected.

"The farm said this is the first time a recall like this has happened in 40 years," KCRA wrote.

What to do if you have purchased products covered under the recall

Vega Farms says it has destroyed all of the product from store locations and urges people who have any of the product listed above to dispose of it immediately.

The good news is that as of now, no illnesses have been reported related to the consumption of the eggs mentioned in the recall.

What to know about salmonella

According to the Cleveland Clinic, symptoms of salmonella poisoning include diarrhea, fever, stomach pains, nausea, vomiting and headaches.

While most cases are usually mild in nature, individuals with compromised immune systems, who are over the age of 65 or under the age of 12 months or have sickle cell disease are at greater risk of more serious illness.
