NFL Super Bowl National Anthem Decision Turns Heads
With the NFL approaching the final weeks of the season, the Feb. 6 Super Bowl is fast approaching. While Bad Bunny was announced as this year's halftime performer several weeks ago, the league has just made a decision on who will sing the national anthem before the game – and that decision has led to a lot of excitement on social media.
The singing of "The Star-Spangled Banner" before the game is always an exciting part of the pregame festivities, and the length of the performance is even a popular prop bet amongst those betting on the game. This year, the song will be performed by a social media superstar.
Charlie Puth Performing the National Anthem
On Monday afternoon, the NFL announced on its official Instagram account that singer, songwriter, producer, and social media superstar Charlie Puth would perform the national anthem ahead of this year's Super Bowl in San Francisco.
Puth offered his reaction to the news on Instagram with a comedic video explaining the musical complexities of "The Star-Spangled Banner" using football terms.
"I can’t believe I’m saying this… I will be performing the National Anthem at Super Bowl LX," Puth wrote on Instagram.
Additionally, the league announced that Brandi Carlile would perform "America the Beautiful" before the game, while Coco Jones would perform "Lift Every Voice and Sing."
Who is Charlie Puth?
Puth is an American singer-songwriter and record producer who shot to popularity through the viral success of his song covers uploaded to YouTube. He began his music career professionally in 2011 after he signed his first record deal following an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
