Netflix To Remove Two Acclaimed and Popular Shows in January 2026

0 19

For many years, Netflix users have been able to watch a long list of acclaimed and beloved drama series on the streaming service. While that has made it easy to conveniently watch so many high-quality series, the unfortunate truth is that some great shows have left the streaming service.

With so many stellar series available to watch on Netflix at any given time, users often procrastinate on watching some shows that they've wanted to enjoy for some time. Unfortunately, it would be a mistake for users to put off watching two acclaimed series that have been available on Netflix since they will be leaving in a matter of weeks.

In July 2025, What's on Netflix published an article revealing that Lost was leaving Netflix globally. While that was sad news for Lost fans all over the world, American users were given a reprieve at that time. However, that grace period will be ending soon since Lost will leave Netflix in America on January 1, 2026.

While it is unfortunate that December 31, 2025, will be the last day for Netflix users in America to watch Lost on the service, it isn't the first time something like this has happened. Lost was previously available on the service during most of the 2010s, but was removed from the company's media library in 2018. After it had been absent for years, Netflix later struck a deal with Disney to bring the show back for 18 months, which began on July 1, 2024. That deal lapsing is the reason why the show is set to leave Netflix once again.

At the height of Lost's success, it was one of the most acclaimed shows on television. The winner of a seemingly endless list of major awards and nominations, it would be impossible to list all of the accolades the show earned here. Perhaps most notably, Lost won 10 Emmy Awards from the 51 nominations it earned, according to the Television Academy's website.

Just as importantly, Lost was a huge hit with viewers when it premiered. A June 2024 The Wrap article that was republished by Yahoo! Entertainment focused on how Lost's premiere changed TV. That article detailed the stunning fact that Lost's premiere episode was watched by 18.7 million viewers. That is an incredible fact since the series didn't have a built-in following to help it garner that kind of viewership number.

'Prison Break' Is Set To Leave Netflix on January 29, 2026

Just like Lost, an August 2025 What's on Netflix article reveals that Prison Break has already left Netflix in global markets. However, American Netflix users have been able to enjoy the popular series on Netflix since then. That is set to end soon, as Prison Break will leave American Netflix on January 29, 2026.

In theory, a deal could be struck to keep Lost and Prison Break on Netflix for longer than expected. However, any fans who hope to be able to continue watching either series on Netflix in February 2026 should accept that scenario seems very unlikely to happen. In international markets, like Canada, both series are already available to stream on Disney+. There is no obvious reason to believe that Disney wouldn't want the two shows to also become available on its own streaming service in America in the coming weeks.
