These Are Walmart's 2025 Thanksgiving Hours
Thanksgiving always sneaks up fast, and Walmart is usually the go-to stop for last-minute groceries, kitchen supplies, or extra place settings you forgot you needed for the big day. But the holiday week plays by its own rules when it comes to store hours.
If you're trying to plan out your shopping—or avoid a panic run right before dinner—here's what you need to know about Walmart's holiday schedule this year, including Thanksgiving Day and the Black Friday kickoff.

Short answer: No. Walmart will once again close all stores nationwide on Thanksgiving Day, which falls on Thursday, Nov. 27, 2025. It's one of only two days the retailer shuts down completely each year; the other is Christmas Day. The company introduced this policy in 2020 and has maintained it ever since.
Walmart's leadership has been clear about the reason. CEO John Furner has repeatedly said Thanksgiving is a day for employees to be home with their families—whether that means cooking, relaxing or watching football—and the company wants to keep that tradition in place.

Stores will reopen on Black Friday, Nov. 28, at 6 a.m., marking the official kickoff of one of Walmart's biggest sales events. Expect a full rush—electronics, toys, home goods and holiday décor are among the items that typically see some of the year's steepest discounts. Walmart is also pushing its online deals earlier than usual, with some promotions beginning as early as Nov. 14, with Walmart+ members getting even earlier online access.
Aside from Thanksgiving Day, Walmart will follow its regular operating hours throughout the rest of the holiday week. Most stores run 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., but it's always good to double-check your local store hours in the Walmart app or the online Store Finder, especially if you're traveling.
Walmart isn't the only major retailer hitting pause for the holiday. Target and Costco will also keep their doors closed on Thanksgiving Day in 2025. The change began industry-wide during the pandemic and has now become a widespread holiday norm, especially as more Black Friday shopping moves online.
Bottom line: Don't count on Walmart on Thanksgiving. Make your list early, check your store's hours before heading out, and get ready for the real holiday shopping surge when the doors open at 6 a.m. on Black Friday.
