'Stranger Things' Star Sadie Sink Breaks Silence on MCU Role in ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’

Since Stranger Things first became one of the biggest television smash hits in years, the series has launched many of its cast members into international fame. That has allowed many of the show's stars to land roles in other projects, like Millie Bobby Brown headlining the Enola Holmes movies.

Now, Sadie Sink appears to be poised to potentially have landed the most noteworthy role of any of Stranger Things' former child stars since she is set to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After photos of Sink on the set of the upcoming MCU movie Spider-Man: Brand New Day went viral, there has been a lot of conjecture about her role in the film. After the rumors have flew around for weeks, Sink has finally broken her silence on her MCU future.

In October 2025, photos of Sadie Sink on the set of Spider-Man: Brand New Day surfaced on social media. Roughly a month later, in November 2025, Sink was interviewed by Entertainment Weekly as she and the other Stranger Things stars were promoting the Netflix show's final season. When Sink was asked about Spider-Man: Brand New Day by the outlet, she joked about the dark andpuffy jacket she was photographed wearing on the set of the MCU movie.

“Tom can wave at the fans because people know who he is, but then you get a glimpse of me and I'm like a penguin. That'll be the situation for a bit, it seems.”

On top of joking about her wardrobe, Sink also revealed one fascinating fact about her joining the MCU. Even though some fans may have expected Marvel Studios to have been circling Sink for a long time before she was cast, she revealed that negotiations over her MCU debut began “not as far back as you would think.” Instead, Entertainment Weekly's article stated that Sink began conversations with Marvel when she was filming Stranger Things 5.

Once the MCU set photos of Sink went viral, there was a lot of discussion and articles about theories about who Sink could be portraying in the film. It was easy for there to be a lot of different rumors about her role since she wasn't photographed wearing the kind of superhero or supervillain suit that would have instantly given away her role. While one of the most common theories was that Sink will portray Rachel Cole-Alves, a character who is linked to the iconic Marvel antihero The Punisher, some observers thought she could be cast as Jean Grey.

During the aforementioned Entertainment Weekly interview, Sink was asked about the rumors that she could be portraying the iconic X-Men hero, Jean Grey. Unsurprisingly, the Stranger Things star didn't confirm or deny that she has been cast as the beloved mutant character. Instead, Sink responded by pointing out that there had alreafy been rumors about her portraying Jean Grey before she was photographed on the Spider-Man: Brand New Day set.

“That was happening before I even knew that I would be working on this project. I was like, ‘Wait! What are people talking about?’”

Since Jean Grey has typically sported red hair in the comics and during big and little screen adaptations of the character, many young female acting stars with fiery hair get linked to the character. The final comment that Sink made to Entertainment Weekly about her upcoming MCU role was to point out that phenomenon is somewhat silly because hair dye and wigs exist.

“A lot of people forget that hair color can change, but, yeah, I understand all of the theories.”
