Brendan Fraser Sparks ‘The Mummy 4’ Speculation With a Perfect Teaser

0 3

It may have taken 17 years, but Brendan Fraser is now proof that there's no time limit on how long it can take for the call you've been waiting on to come. Thankfully for Fraser and the many fans of the beloved movie series The Mummy, the 56-year-old actor never closed the door on the possibility of The Mummy 4 being put in motion.

While the fourth installment in The Mummy series was initially planned to follow up on the 2008 film The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, Universal Pictures cancelled it in 2012. However, in a time when reboots and new additions to popular franchises are at an all-time high, Fraser and co-star Rachel Weisz are poised to return for Universal's The Mummy 4, as Deadline initially reported. In his first public comments regarding the 2026 film, Fraser offered his own teaser, and it gives fans even more reason for excitement.

Although Fraser couldn't give much in the way of spoilers about The Mummy 4, he did make two things very clear. For starters, it's going to be the movie he wanted to make, unlike the third film in the series, as he explained to the Associated Press. Fraser also teased that The Mummy 4 is going to "give the fans what they want."

"The one I wanted to make was never made," Fraser said. "The third [The Mummy movie] was a model of…how can I say this to the AP reporter? NBC had the rights to broadcast the Olympics that year. So they put two together and we went to China. Working in Shanghai, an incredible experience. I’m proud of the third one because I think it’s a good standalone movie. We picked up and did what we do with a different crew on deck and gave it our best shot."

"But the one I wanted to make is forthcoming. And I’ve been waiting 20 years for this call. Sometimes it was loud, sometimes it was a faint telegraph. Now? It’s time to give the fans what they want."

Fraser's comments are significant, especially if it means that The Mummy 4 will return to its roots by providing more of what fans enjoyed from the first two films.

Brendan Fraser and 'The Mummy 4' Can Right the Ship After the Third Movie

The third movie in the series left critics and fans feeling similar to Fraser, considering the reviews of all three. Here's a look at the scores from critics and fans for each of The Mummy films, as compiled by Rotten Tomatoes.

The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor sticks out like a sore thumb. But while critics can be tough on movies, understandably, the noteworthy drop-off came from fans. A 30 percent fan score on Rotten Tomatoes for a film that topped 60 percent for its first two releases is surprising, to say the least.

Fraser appears confident that the fourth installment will bring fans back to the first two movies, and it's safe to say that The Mummy 4 will draw plenty of interest ahead of its April 17, 2026, release date.
